Remote Work Cafes

Cappuccino from La Cité

Working from home is the new norm and it’s a great luxury to be productive outside of an office. I'm motivated to get out of the house and switch up my routine and environment. Having a reliable cafe in Florence should meet some personal needs like spacious seating, internet access, a warm and welcoming atmosphere and lots of coffee. Here are some recommended cafes for remote work days in Florence that each have something unique to offer.

Glass of La Cité house wine

La Cité Libreria Caffè

La Cité is a two story, woman-owned, bookstore-café with an artistic atmosphere. Cross Ponte alla Carraia and walk through their tall glass doors to meet their full bar and shelves of books that are also up for sale. The furniture and décor is eclectic and the menu offers an extensive list of coffee, wine, cocktails and food to enjoy. Find a cozy spot on an armchair or at a communal table and pick up a book or board game that catches your eye to take a break from work.

This cafe plays a wide range of music, incense occasionally fills the air, and colorful flowers fill vases sitting in the corners, your senses are bound to be in paradise. This place is great for brainstorming, if you’re in need of inspiration or beginning tasks. I’d recommend refraining from making important work calls as music is always playing from the speakers or a piano player might come along and perform for the cafe. The wifi connection can be an occasional hit or miss so be sure to have a hotspot handy if you have work that is a priority to get to.

If you want to be immersed in a hip and groovy treasure chest of books, art and music for your remote work day, then La Cité is for you. Students, locals and tourists alike are welcomed and they have no apparent laptop policy limiting your time. Visit at any point in the day for a cappuccino or glass of their house wine.

Cappuccino and cornetto at Ditta

Ditta Artigianale

Ditta Artiginale is a chain of cafes and has a great atmosphere to work from. Locations can be found all across Florence, each offering a different style. The locations in Sant’Ambrogio and Lungarno have outdoor seating which is perfect if you desire to soak up the sun. Their café and beverage selection also offer the atypical iced coffee or American style pastries and brunch.

The Wi-Fi here is the best, if you need a strong, uninterrupted internet connection that won’t fail, Ditta is reliable for that. However, as it is a popular choice for many, they are always subject to crowds so a table won’t be guaranteed. I have noticed they enforce a no-laptop policy between certain hours or even deny you work on your laptop on the weekends. Be prepared to have workers ask you to limit your time if you are seated for an abnormally long time. Just be sure to be courteous of your order-amount to time-spent-seated ratio during their lunch and aperitivo hours to make both your stay and their service worthwhile.

If coffee is not your drink of choice for work, enjoy a nice aperitif or fresh-squeezed juice instead. Relax or work, Ditta Artiginale is a straightforward caffe that will make any American feel right at home.

Window Seat at SimBIOsi

SimBIOsi Café

SimBIOsi is one part of the restaurant trio they have to offer. This organic café has a menu selection beyond traditional cappuccino and espresso, including iced drinks like matcha lattes and a full breakfast menu. The interior has a quaint, antique feel which perfectly depicts the environment it is found in, the heart of Florence, only blocks away from the Duomo.

Tall windows surround the perimeter of the café which are perfect for people watching if your eyes grow tired from screen work. They have a reliable internet connection and are quick with orders, so your time is deeply respected. Table service or to-go are both offered. Be sure to give their next-door restaurant and pizzeria a try for a lunch break, also promoting the use of organic ingredients. SimBIOsi is a great location choice, being in the center of Florence which allows you to take advantage of exploring your surroundings once your work day is wrapped up.
